  • How to get a job abroad

If you decide that you want to relocate abroad then there are many things to consider such as accommodation and appropriate visas etc. but also there’s the task of finding a job.

Now your search will very much depend on what work you’d like to do, if you want to continue your current career in another country then you’d be best off looking for global companies that offer services similar to what you currently do, it may be that you can find an English speaking company that could be ideal if your language skills aren’t yet up to scratch.

If you’re looking for something part time, more like bar work or working in a hotel then sometimes, as scary as it may seem, your best off getting a flight out there and looking for work once you arrive. To do this you will need to have a small surplus of cash to fall back on in case it takes you a little time to get work but if you are travelling to a tourist area you should be able to get part time work fairly easily.

  • Don’t give up on a career that you always wanted

You hear it all to often of people spending years and lots of money training to get in to the profession they have always dreamed about for them to leave within 12 months of starting. This may be for many reasons but often it is due to a bad experience at one particular place.

Within every industry there are a number of different locations and often even types of businesses that you can work in and just because one did not work out doesn’t mean that it is the same every where. Try to analyse why you are not happy. Is it the people you work with, maybe its the way the company is managed or even the type of clientele that you are dealing with? All of these can vary drastically from place to place so before you give up on that dream job, why not try going somewhere else doing to make sure that you have given the job a proper chance before making any hasty decisions.

  • Working as a PA

PA stands for personal assistant and there are many job roles that require a PA to help with administrative tasks and organisation, the most common of these being financial advisers, company directors, chief executives and general upper management type roles.
When individuals are looking for a PA they will most likely be after relevant experience within the selected field along with good IT skills and knowledge of spreadsheets and document writing.  They will also require a reference from your previous employer detailing the type of jobs you carried out in your previous role.
As a PA you will be expected to have excellence time keeping and be able to effectively manage a diary of clients/meetings and events to help maximise efficiency.
You may also be require to do audio typing and take calls as well as greet clients and keep on top of the administrative duties in the office.
The pay level varies from role to role so it’s worth asking at the interview about pay scale.

  • Running Training Courses

If you have been working in a particular industry for a number of years you may have considered running training courses for other people wishing to get in to the industry. Becoming a trainer can not only be a very rewarding job but can also be quite well paid.

If you are interested in going down this route then you need to find out what (if any) qualifications you require. Certain industries require you to have a recognised teaching qualification to allow you to train others, this may require you returning to university or college which may mean that you are out of work for a time. This can have a massive impact on your financial situation and should be considered in detail before going forward.

As mentioned, training can be very rewarding. Knowing that you are responsible for training an individual or group of people to allow them to progress their career will be extremely fore filling.

  • What do nursery nurse jobs entail?

A nursery nurse provides care for children who are no older than 7 years. They play a vital role in the care of infants, so they need to be experienced in dealing with them. Mostly, nursery assistants work together with nursery nurses, their more qualified counterparts, so as to gain experience. Although most nurses in this field take care of healthy children, it is possible to work with special needs kids such as disabled ones. Their duties envelop all physical care aspects and safety.

Nursery nurses are also responsible for a child’s educational and social development. Working closely with the children is a must so that any problems can be reported to their parents. If you ever apply for nursery nurse jobs, your work will entail the following; (more…)

  • Joining a recruitment agency

With so many recruitment agencies out there it can be very confusing knowing which one to register with.

If you are looking for work in a particular sector there may be specific recruitment agencies that specialise in that field so it’s worth looking around.

Also you can look for reviews online of the different agencies to check if they have a good reputation from other people who have found work through them.

If you are looking for temp work it can be a good idea to register with a number of agencies as it’s unlikely that one agency will be able to supply you with continual temp work on a regular basis.

When you go into the agency ensure that you are clear about the type of work that you are after and the wage that you are willing to work for, often recruitment agents will try to get you to negotiate the wage down as low as possible but realistically you are not going to be able to sustain working for a low wage long term.

  • Perfecting your interview technique

The majority of us find attending an interview for a job a very daunting experience. You may be highly qualified for the position, have all the experience required, but still feel extremely nervous when it comes to the actual interview. To prepare for an interview you firstly need to decide what to wear. You want to wear something professional and that makes you feel confident. If you feel confident then this will come across in the interview.

Once you have your outfit sorted it is a good idea to re-read through your CV and cover letter a few times, thinking of any questions they may ask you, such as why did you have a 12 month gap in your employment history, or why did you leave this company after only 4 months? Being prepared for these types of questions will help you to remain calm.

It is a great idea to research a bit about the company that you are going to attend the interview with. Look at their website, find out who the key people and clients are and familiarise yourself with their recent news and company background.

  • What to expect in a role of a recruitment consultant

If you are looking to become a recruitment consultant then you will need to understand what the role entails and what you will be expected to do on a day to day basis.

Recruitment consultants tend to work from a central office although some do work from home and travel to meet clients. The business is often split in to two sides, dealing with the employers and dealing with potential recruits. Recruitment agencies work in different ways, some contact employers and build relationships with them so when they have a post to advertise, it is all done via the agency, whereas others tend to find potential employees and then search existing job adverts and contact the employer to discuss a candidate that they feel may be suitable.

You need to have great communication skills for this role and must also be very organised. You may be required to complete a training course by the agency before they will let you speak with clients.

  • Stuck on writing a CV?

Compiling a CV can be a daunting task, especially if it is the first one you have done. There are many templates out there that you can use and people often upload their own CV for others to use as a base to start from.

If you are going to use a template, make sure you look for ones that have been created recently (within the last 12 months) as often the way CV’s are generally written can change with the times. These days, CV’s tend to be a little bit shorter and often contain bullet pointed information as opposed to lengthy paragraphs. This is because there are often so many people applying for a position that employers want to be able to scan read your CV to see if you would be suitable and haven’t got the time to be reading pages and pages. You should also try and find a CV that is relevant to your industry as some sectors require more information in a CV than others and often you can pick up some good tips from a CV that is relevant to the vacancy that you are applying for.

  • How to pursue a new career

For many of us, a change in career is something that we may do once or twice in our lifetime. If you already have a secure job with a regular income, it can be hard giving this up to start on a new career path. Ideally you want to be able to do as much training and gain experience in the new industry before leaving a current job. If you have the opportunity, you could do a training course in your own time at home or attend college in the evenings.

People choose to take a change in their career for many reasons; sometimes it is for job satisfaction and other times due to personal circumstances changing. If you are serious about doing it, then try to plan ahead and see what types of jobs you would be able to apply for and if you can jump straight in or require extra training. If you can, try to save a little money to cover the period when you may be out of work or on a probationary job trial.
