Looking for new employment while already employed has many benefits. It also has a number of drawbacks as well, where if you get caught out in a bad situation, you can quickly find your attractiveness as a potential new employee deteriorating.
For most business owners, when they are looking for new personnel, one thing which excites their appetites is somebody already employed. For most people in this situation, they are moving company looking for better opportunities. This initiative by itself bodes well for most employers, but also, most people who are good at the work they do are already in employment.
For a person already in employment, looking for new employment, one thing to make sure of before you quit your job is that you have a firm offer of a new job before you quit your current one. For many business owners, getting you to quit your job would give them more leverage in the negotiations, so keeping your job until you have an offer is a good way of keeping the leverage on your side. Of course, it could go even worse from this situation, for instance, if you quit your job because a greater opportunity presents itself, only to dry up once you have left your job, then your situation can quickly deteriorate into something quite disastrous.
