Finding the right job can be a battle at the best of the times, but with so many agencies now involved in the recruitment process it can often feel like there’s just too much ‘noise’. However, they can be a really useful resource, as they will do much of the job hunting for you, so here’s some quick tips for getting the best out of them.

First up – do some research. Some agencies are very general, whereas others are extremely specialist. The best agency for you is the one that most matches the type of role you’re looking for. If you’re looking for an executive position for example, you’ll need to look for a specialist – you’re not going to find Director positions at Office Angels, for example. However, if you’re looking for general office work or temporary work, a specialist recruiter probably isn’t the place to go.

Next up – keep in touch. Build a relationship with your agency or agent. It’s a well-established fact that someone will work harder for you if you have a good rapport, but agencies are also far more likely to prioritise those individuals who call and email regularly – particularly for roles that involve customer contact.
